Found Poem
Devon Stanaford
Animal came closer to the bars
Knelt close to the cheetah
Heart beating fast
Not scared
Only excited
Felt cheetah’s hot breath
He had amber eyes,
Steady but sad
Soft but bristly
Moist nose
Big pink tongue unfolded
Licked my hand
Tongue warm and rough
Like sandpaper dipped into hot water
Climbed over chain
Cheetah following
Heavy man in uniform came running towards us
Holding gun and nightstick
Running with hands on his hips
Shouting about regulations
Idiots have been killed climbing into cages
We had to leave immediately
Heard people whispering
But the fools were not worth the time
Who cares what they thought?
